The run will start between the Embry – Riddle ICI Center and the Soccer Field Concession. The track is mapped to the left. The participants will run this lap three times, totaling to 5 kilometers.
The 5k course will include three “color zones” where blue and yellow-colored cornstarch will be tossed at each participant as they pass through the zone. Only official 5k student volunteer staff will be provided with color to toss in the color zones.
Public Safety officers and Sports Medicine staff have volunteered to be stationed at various points along the route, not within throwing distance of the color zones. In addition, the race registration form will provide participants with information regarding what to expect from the color zones, how to prepare for the colored corn starch, and various tips on how to clean the color from skin and hair. Each registered participant will receive protective eyewear and a medical mask to wear during the race. The medical mask will prevent the participants from inhaling any colored corn starch during the course of the run. Several Water Stations will be placed throughout the track for anyone who needs it.
Participants will be encouraged to wear clothing that they don’t mind turning blue and yellow in color, including sneakers. Most color will come out after wash but some materials might hold color.
Since the color is just cornstarch (powder), it can easily be removed from skin and hair with water. Participants will be encouraged to dust off as much as possible before using water to remove the rest of the cornstarch. Water will be provided by staff to assist in removing color before participants leave the race location.
